90 From Life: Day 2 – Copper Creamer
This is day 2 of my 90 day challenge where I make one new painting from life each day.
Today’s work features an antique copper creamer. A few of the things that drew me to it were the color and texture of the metals, and the porcelain handle.
I especially wanted to explore the colors of copper in very low and reflected light, which I was able to control by placing the creamer in a small shadow box attached to my easel.
I’m generally happy with the results, but if I were to do the painting all over again, I’d pay closer attention to 2 things. Some of the drawing could be a little tighter – especially the geometry of the back of the creamer. I would also be more careful about some of the subtle color shifts in the shadow areas.
