90 From Life: Day 9 – Olive Jar
This is day 9 of my 90 day challenge where I do one new painting from life each day.
The impetus for today’s painting was that I wanted to paint on a blue background. Sometimes it’s as simple as that. Blue and green also make an unusual color harmony, so I enjoyed working with that.
The panel for today’s painting was a definite problem. It’s from a new batch, and it was sanded to a too-smooth finish. As a result, the paint just lays on the surface, much like it would on glass, and the brush strokes are far too visible.
I’ve already gone down into my workshop to fix this batch, and hopefully it won’t be an issue in the future.
