Today’s Painting for You: Fruit Tart No. 1
Today’s painting for you:
“Fruit Tart No. 1”, Oil on Panel, 4×4 inches, 2012 (sold)
Are you hungry now?
Food is absolutely one of the most basic subjects for still life painters. Eating is the most fundamental human drive. Each and every one of us to satisfy that hunger several times every day. Combining that need with the inherent visual beauty of much of what we eat – along with the memory of how it tastes – makes for a very satisfying and sometimes powerful painting.
In fact, some of my artist friends paint nothing but food. While I don’t take it quite that far, food in one form or another is probably in at least half of my paintings.
People often ask me if I eat the things I paint, and the answer is no! After a day or more sitting under warm lights in my studio, that’s just not a good idea. However, in this case I bought 2 fruit tarts. One to paint, and one to eat. It was delicious!
I hope you enjoy it!
