    The direct approach made that much detail in a day possible, I am sure. I like impressionism and it tends toward that feel, but I know you are much more a realist. It is an interesting change of pace.

    The curve of the saucer and the pattern in the cloth are a nice part of the composition that you chose.

    Jeff, I see what you mean. You might have fun incorporating a glass tea cup, what with the color of the tea reflecting through the cup and perhaps the handle … especially after the absolutely terrific job you did painting the jar of marmalade. All the best, Helene

    Thanks James, yeah, the direct painting does lend itself to a looser approach to detail. You’re right that it’s not necessarily what I was intending, but sometimes unintended consequences can be really nice.
