    These underpaintings seem so time intensive to me! I’m curious as to why you include so much detail in them? Obviously it’s works for you because I think your final pieces are stunning!

    Hi Josephine,

    It’s true that the detail of the underpainting adds a considerable amount of time, but I’ve just found it the surest path to making a good painting. Having a solid foundation lets me approach the final layer with much more confidence. I have tried working without underpaintings from time to time, and the results have seemed mixed to me. I always go back to the underpainting.
