    I love traditional technique. Are you ever tempted to underpaint in acrylic to speed up the process?

    Hi Nail,

    No, I am not. Since I use extremely thin layers of raw umber (with titanium white) for the underpaintings, it’s typically dry by the next day.

    I also have real questions about the stability of oil over acrylic. While I do use an acrylic primer, from my understanding, the formulation of the primer is different from actual acrylic paint; it’s supposedly more porous and provides greater adhesion for the oil layer to grasp.

    I’m certainly not a materials expert, but these are things I’ve picked up on the street that make sense, at least abstractly.
