Finally! Some paint!
Good morning everyone. Hope you had a great weekend – I certainly did; some time to do nothing, some time to do a little good cooking, and some time visiting with old friends I haven’t seen in a while.
Time to get back to work, though, and I’m happy to show some real progress on the commissioned paintings.
I’ve made the first pass on a half dozen of the marbles on the left panel. I haven’t begun the large marble in back yet, since it’s going to be a steel marble that partially reflects it’s surroundings, and I needed the foreground marbles painted before I could consider their reflections.
You can also see something about my working methods here. This piece is done from both imagination and life, and in the upper left corner you can see how I balance the actual marbles I’m painting against a (sort of) blue background for the reference. A small piece of kneaded eraser holds the marble in place, because it would be an unhappy day if it went rolling off into a palette full of wet paint.
Look forward to showing you more later this week!
