This is day 10 of my 90-day challenge to produce one new painting from life each day.
The subject for today’s painting is a small antique vase with a dried straw flower from a friend’s garden.
If I had the opportunity to do this painting over again, I’d focus more on controlling the values in the flower and the background. The proportions of the vase also got away from me a little as I worked, but that doesn’t bother me too much.
I also deliberately decided to simplify the background cloth and omit the pattern. Including it would’ve introduced too much visual noise to the painting.
