90 From Life: Day 22 – Red Cabbage
This is day 22 of my 90 day challenge to do one new painting from life every day.
Although it looks simple at first, this might be the most ambitious subject I’ve tackled yet in this series. The surface is covered in folds and creases, a lot like folds in drapery, and each fold needs to be seen and understood individually.
I set up the composition for these paintings the night before, and last night I was excited by this choice, because I knew it could make a great painting. This morning when I came down and realized what a task I’d set for myself, I thought about doing something simpler and having a shorter day in the studio. But, this is 90 days of challenge, not 90 days of easy work.
