90 From Life: Day 26 – Three Oil Cans

This is day 26 of my 90 day challenge to do one new painting from life each day.
You may notice that the background, which is visible at the border, has a much lighter color than on others from this series. This is the tone, which is just a thin layer of paint which cuts down on the glare of the pure white ground.
I almost always use a middle gray for this, but I’m experimenting with some different toning. I liked working with this tone today, and will do a few more. Based on this, I may end up rethinking how I tone my panels and canvases.
