90 From Life: Day 7 – Cup and String
This is day 7 of my 90-day challenge to do one new painting from life each day.
The subject is an old and kind of battered enamel drinking cup, which I thought had a lot of character. I draped some red string around the handle to fill out the composition.
I’m really enjoying working with low-light setups using a low-key palette, and I think I’ll be exploring more of that during this project.
One thing I focused on a lot as worked was controlling the color saturation – in particular on the cup. If I were to do this again, I’d probably do a little more sketching on the side to work out those relationships.
