Today’s Painting for You: Orange No. 4
Today’s painting for you:
“Orange No. 4”, Oil on Panel, 4×4 inches, 2010 (sold)
A couple days ago I wrote a post about backgrounds. This is a much more traditional foreground/background arrangement than the other painting I showed. The idea, however, is still the same: Background is never just background.
I wanted the pattern on the cloth to help move the eye around the picture, and contribute some dynamic energy to a very stable composition. I also really liked the way the shapes in the pattern echoed the shapes of the orange and leaf.
In a good painting, even the small details should reinforce the big ideas, and something as important as the background should never be left to chance.
I hope you enjoy it!
