Today’s Painting for You: Shotglass and Orange on Oriental Rug
Today’s painting for you:
“Shotglass and Orange on Oriental Rug”, Oil on Wood, 2.5×2.5 inches, 2012 (sold).
There’s that rug again.
Scale is a tricky thing. This painting is tiny – just 2.5 x 2.5 inches. The software I use to create this blog automatically inserts large images into my posts. When I inserted this image, it was about 4 times the size of the painting on my monitor.
I was not happy with the result – the craftsmanship frankly looked amateurish and all of the surface defects were, well… magnified 4 times. Worst of all, it just didn’t speak to me. Hardly the best face I always strive to show you.
When I scaled it down to about the same size as the original, a different painting emerged. One that captured the mood of complete silence and stillness I intended. You can see for yourself how much difference the scale makes in the mood – clicking on the picture above will bring up the enlarged image. See the difference?
I hope you enjoy it!
