"Silver, Plum, Purple Silk"

Oil on panel, 5×5 inches (12×12 cm), 2019

“Silver, Plum, Purple Silk” is a simple arrangement of an antique silver creamer and ripe plum resting on brocaded silk dyed a light purple – the dominant color of this painting.

Once the most precious and costly of colors – and often reserved exclusively for royalty – purple retains those noble associations, while also denoting creativity, spirituality, and fortune.  It is certainly one of the most subtle and beguiling colors.

Painted against a dark background, it expresses the simplicity and directness of the still life painting of the Dutch Golden Age, from which it draws its inspiration.

The original painting has sold, but several print versions are available (see below).
