A Surprise Delivery The universe sending a little sign?

20231118c

A strange thing happened this week.

For some time now, I’ve had it in the back of my mind that I should paint some sushi.

Monday afternoon, I stepped out to check the mail, and on my front step was a bag from a food delivery service, which I hadn’t ordered from.

A quick look at the receipt stapled to the bag cleared up the confusion – it was delivered to the wrong address – the correct house number but the wrong street… and it had been sitting there since the previous evening (no, they didn’t ring the doorbell or knock).

And, of course… it was full of sushi from the local Japanese restaurant.

Since the food had been sitting there for nearly 24 hours, I decided I didn’t even need to contact the delivery service to let them know about their error – by that point the parties involved would have reached whatever resolution they needed to reach.

Obviously I wasn’t going to try eating it.

Yet here I was holding a bag full of sushi, which I took as the universe sending me a little sign that now was the time to paint some.

And so I did.

I carved out a little time and did a few quick studies (above).

It’s a lovely subject to paint, and I might just do some more.
