“Simplicity is not an objective in art, but one achieves simplicity despite one’s self by entering into the real sense of things.” — Constantin Brâncuși
“Cherries and Silver Creamer” is an original still life painting, created with oil on linen mounted to panel.
This composition is a study in contrast and harmony. A polished silver creamer, cool and reflective, anchors a loose scatter of warm cherries—some blushing gold, others deep red. Against the quiet glow of the neutral background, the fruit hums with saturated color, each one caught in a slightly different light.
Though the subject is modest, the attention is not. Light ricochets from curve to curve, from metal to fruit, pulling each surface into a slow visual rhythm. The reflections in the creamer don’t just mirror the world—they bend it, soften it, and offer it back with a touch of mystery.
Measuring 5 × 6 inches (13 × 15 cm), the painting is set in a simple flat black frame with clean, contemporary lines. The outer dimensions of the frame are 7 × 8 inches (18 × 20 cm), and the piece arrives ready to hang.

"Cherries and Silver Creamer"
An Original Still Life Painting
The Inspiration
Cherries and Silver Creamer was born from a moment of stillness—when the right light settled gently over the table and caught a glint on the edge of the creamer. The cherries, arranged almost absentmindedly at first, began to reflect and refract the light in unexpected ways: tiny halos of red bouncing onto the silver, soft shadows pooling at the base. What began as a casual grouping took on the quiet dignity of a deliberate offering.
There’s a long tradition in still life painting of elevating the humble—of finding meaning not in symbols, but in simple forms, observed with care. This painting stands in that tradition, inviting the viewer not to interpret, but to notice. The gleam of a curved surface. The blush on a yellow cherry just beginning to ripen. The still air around objects that do not move, yet feel alive.
The intention here is not spectacle, but presence. These are not just cherries. This is not just silver. It is a moment when the world slows down, and a few ordinary things—just as they are—become quietly radiant.
The Finest Materials
This painting was created using oil paint on linen, carefully mounted to a rigid panel for lasting stability. The linen was hand-prepared with multiple layers of traditional ground, offering a smooth yet responsive surface that allows for precise control of detail and softness alike.
Only the highest quality professional paints were used—selected for their richness, subtlety, and permanence. The pigments hold both depth and luminosity, giving the cherries their layered glow and the silver its quiet reflections.
The work is finished with a conservation-grade varnish to protect the surface and gently unify the tones. Every element of this painting—from support to final glaze—was chosen with an eye toward longevity, ensuring that the piece will endure and continue to reward close attention over time.
Painstaking Process
This painting was developed slowly, in a deliberate sequence of layers. The underdrawing was laid in with precision, establishing not just the forms but the delicate gesture of the creamer’s silhouette and the placement of each cherry.
Working wet over dry, the first color pass focused on broad relationships—temperature shifts in the silver, the hue variations within each cherry, the faintest cast shadow on the white surface. Subsequent layers refined edges, deepened values, and introduced glazes to bring clarity and richness to the forms.
Special care was taken with the reflections: each one mapped not just as a visual echo, but as a compositional counterpoint—a way of binding together the elements through light alone. What seems effortless in the final result was in fact built up stroke by stroke, over many quiet hours at the easel.

About These Paintings
These paintings grow out of two sources: On the one hand, a deep love for the great still life tradition of the Dutch Golden Age, and on the other, a life-long interest in meditation.
For both viewer and artist, still life is the perfect opportunity to have that experience which all meditation seems to aim at: complete and total absorption in the present moment. Not the past. Not the future. Just what is in front of you. Right here. Right now.
That moment of quiet, intense connection – that sense of one-ness – is all the inspiration I need… and these paintings emerge from that source.
As such, this isn’t really a personal art. It’s not about me or my views or my ideas.
My role is to step aside, and let these silent moments speak through me.
And there isn’t anything more personal.
